[Our Correspondent Reports] Accompanied by leaders and officials of the Cambodia-China Friendship and Cooperation Promotion Association, a delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts recently paid a friendly visit to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China. They were warmly received by the president of the conservatory, further promoting in-depth exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and art.
The delegation was led by Mr. Lim Yousour, Deputy Director General Directorate General of Technique for Cultural Affair Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts. He was accompanied by Mr. Pok Borak, Director of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion Department, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts; Mr. Huoy Socheat, Deputy Director of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion Department, Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts; Mr. Lin Youyuan, Chief Representative of the Cambodia-China Friendship Collaboration Association in China; Luo Junwei, Vice President of the Association; and Ms. Ear Sophea, CEO of X Capital Investment Co., Ltd., also joined the visit.
The delegation first visited the Chengdu City Concert Hall. Designed by the German architectural firm GMP, the project has a total construction area of approximately 102,000 square meters, a total investment of approximately 1.97 billion yuan, and covers an area of approximately 35 mu (about 2.3 hectares), making it an important new cultural landmark in Chengdu. The concert hall houses a 1600-seat opera house, a 1400-seat concert hall, a 400-seat drama hall, and a 300-seat chamber music hall, along with an open-air theater and cultural plaza that can accommodate 2000 people. The entire complex, designed with the concept of “returning to the classics and simplicity,” cleverly blends modern art with urban culture, leaving a deep impression on the delegation.
Following this, the delegation visited the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. Wen Feng, the president of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, introduced the guests to the academy’s development history and achievements. Founded in 1939 as the Sichuan Provincial Experimental School of Drama and Music, and renamed in June 1959, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music is a long-established and influential higher music institution in China, both domestically and internationally. The academy has achieved fruitful results in music education, composition, and performance, cultivating a large number of renowned artists and professionals.
During the exchange meeting, both sides conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as arts education, professional training, and cultural and creative cooperation, and expressed a positive willingness to promote student exchanges, joint performances, and music culture research in the future. A delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts stated that they will actively encourage more Cambodian youths to study at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, further enhancing the professional level of Cambodian artistic talent.
