[Our Correspondent Reports] Cambodia China Friendship Collaboration Association is actively pursuing strategic partnerships with leading Chinese technology companies, focusing on digital innovation and cultural heritage preservation to promote Cambodian culture on the international stage.

The key project of this collaboration, “The Smile of Angkor,” aims to systematically showcase Cambodia’s profound historical heritage and cultural identity using modern digital technology, further deepening the international community’s understanding of Khmer civilization.

A Cambodian delegation led by His Excellency SOM SOKUN, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, attended the opening ceremony of the “The Smile of Angkor” exhibition in Beijing, China on April 20. Mr. CHEA KORN, Vice President of the Cambodia-China Friendship Collaboration Association, Mr. Ji Zhihui, Founder and CEO of Shiyou (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., and Ms. EAR SOPHEA, Board Advisor of  X Capital Investment Co., Ltd., also participated in the ceremony.

This exhibition was cooperation from the Cambodia-China Friendship Collaboration Association and the Chinese artificial intelligence company, Siyou Technology Co., Ltd., with support from the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and was hosted by X Capital Cambodia.

The “Angkor Smile” exhibition, as introduced, draws inspiration from the records of the customs and daily life of the Khmer people made by Zhou Daguan, a 13th-century Chinese envoy.

In terms of project concept, “Angkor Smile” centers on “using technology to tell culture,” building communication bridges through digital means to tell Cambodian stories effectively, achieving innovative dissemination while protecting cultural heritage.

The project vision is to leverage cutting-edge digital technology to comprehensively enhance the international profile of Cambodia and its rich cultural heritage, allowing Khmer civilization to reach the world in a more vivid and diverse way.

Around its established goals, the project will focus on three main directions: first, promoting Cambodian cultural image to attract more international tourists; second, using digital technology to present the charm of Angkor civilization and local culture; and third, strengthening international awareness and understanding of Cambodia, especially among the Chinese public.

Data shows that in just two months since its launch, the project has achieved approximately 40 million online impressions, demonstrating significant regional and international dissemination potential.

According to the plan, the “Angkor Smile” project will run from January 28, 2026 to October 7, 2026.

In addition, Cambodia China Friendship Collaboration Association also support with X Capital which operates the “Cambodia National Store” in the Chinese market, showcasing and selling high-quality Cambodian products, including specialty agricultural products and tourism resources such as Angkor Wat, through a combination of online and offline channels. This platform not only expands the distribution channels for goods but also serves as an important window for showcasing Cambodia’s cultural image, investment environment, and development potential.
